At TCG, we always advise candidates to do their research about the company they’re interviewing with in advance.
But how can you actually do research that wows the interviewer?
How do you take it to the next level of depth and creativity?
Here are three ideas for different roles.

If it’s a mobility role, research potential new partners in their geographical footprint that could level up their offering.

If it’s a sales role, take one element of the business verticals and show a plan for how you could pitch it.

If it’s a marketing role, take some headlines from their website and rewrite them to be punchier or more in line with the company’s overall tone and voice.
Stop after every hour of research to ask yourself “who cares?”
This will help you get beyond the what.
This will help you get to the why.
And the why is crucial because telling them what they already know won’t impress them. So don’t dump data. Don’t talk about their stock call.
Instead, come to it with something unique, personal, and detailed.
Something that makes it easy to see and impossible to ignore what you could offer their company.
Take your research way above and beyond what’s expected and – a lot of the time – the rest will take care of itself.
